Tamil Nadu Government Schools to Select 8,000 Plus Alumni Ambassadors

School Ambassadors: Through the 'Namma School Namma Ooru Palli' program, three ambassador alumni will be selected from government schools through the School Management Committee on July 10. The three ambassadors will serve for two years (2026–2028) and will mentor students, raise funds for infrastructure development through corporate social responsibility, and ensure that there are no dropouts.

To enhance community involvement in the workings of the government schools, school ambassadors shall be appointed in meetings of school management committees (SMCs), which are due to take place on July 10, as directed in new guidelines provided by the school education department, as part of this initiative under the 'Namma School Namma Ooru Palli' programme.

School ambassadors appointed for the purpose shall serve for two years beginning from July 2026 to July 2028. They will work towards increasing enrolment of students, decreasing dropout rates, mentoring students in higher studies, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from alumni for improving infrastructure and co-ordination among different agencies for enhancing community involvement in government schools. According to the department, 26,221 alumni have enrolled themselves at the 'Namma School Namma Ooru Palli' portal and are willing to act as school ambassadors in 8,209 high and higher secondary government schools.

This network is meant by the government not to be just a donation-based venture but rather to emphasize the aspect of mentoring and holistic institutional development.

The instructions from the School Education Department are that all district education officers should ensure that there is total transparency in the selection process on July 10. The headmasters should ensure that they choose a variety of profiles of people, which includes professionals, entrepreneurs, and even community workers while selecting the three ambassadors for their schools.
