Mumbai School Holiday: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a holiday for all government, government-aided, private, and BMC-run schools and colleges in Mumbai for today, July 6, 2026. The India Meteorological Department has also issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rainfall in the last few days. As per earlier notification, heavy rainfall is expected from July 4 to July 6, 2026, in Mumbai and nearby districts. Earlier on July 4, 2026, the BMC declared a holiday for educational institutions for the afternoon session due to the rainfall alert.

As per the latest reports, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued with strong winds across Mumbai on July 6, 2026. The IMD has warned residents to maintain caution during the extreme weather. Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions (do not take shelter under trees or weak structures, etc., check road/traffic conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow any other advisories issued by concerned agencies). The regions to be affected by heavy rainfall in Maharashtra include Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Thane.

The decision to close schools and colleges has been taken to ensure the safety of students. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has also announced a school holiday for today, July 6, 2026, due to the heavy rainfall predictions. It must be noted that the holiday applies only to schools and colleges. All government and private offices will continue to function as per routine.
Last week, school holidays were announced in Palghar and Panvel districts due to heavy rainfall. Mumbai University also cancelled the exams to be held on the day, and the revised schedule is expected to be issued soon.
School holidays were also announced in several areas of Raigad district due to heavy and very heavy rainfall warnings issued by the IMD.
