Supreme Court PIL Challenges India’s Coaching Raj and Dummy Schools

A fresh PIL in the Supreme Court has raised questions about India’s growing coaching culture. The petition challenges what it calls the Coaching Raj and asks for a bidding national framework to break the line between paid coaching centers and dummy schools and exam focused schooling. It says children cannot be pushed into a system where schools lose meaning and coaching factories take over their lives.

Why this petition matters

The plea says the State cannot run schools by day and surrender children to coaching factories by night. It argues that this model harms students and weakens their right to proper education. The petition says this problem affects many children but hits poor families, rural communities, SC, ST, OBC, EWS groups and first generation learners the hardest. It also claims that the present system violates Article 14, 21 and 21A of the constitution along with key Directive Principles meant to protect children and promote equal opportunity.

What the PIL wants from the Court

The petition seeks a national framework to dismantle the parallel paid coaching system and bring school learning and competitive exam preparation into better balance. It also asks for strong action against dummy schools which allow students to stay away from real classrooms. As seen in the document, a pre litigation representation on 1 April 2026 to the ministry of education NTA CBSE CCPA NCPCR and all states and Union Territories. The case now puts the spotlight on whether India can protect students from an education system driven more by pressure than learning.
