Suraksha Sathi, an innovative, offline smart safety band designed for women and children, has won the top national prize at a youngpreneur competition. Created by a dedicated 10-student team from the Young Preneurs Club at Ryan International School, Sohna Road (Classes 11-12), the wearable directly addresses the critical flaw of existing safety tech: its dependency on smartphones and active internet connections.

A team of dedicated Class 11-12 students from Ryan International School, Sohna Road - Bhubai Mandal, Devika Yadav, Palak Singh, Devansh Upadhyay, Gauransh Sharma, Arya Khatana, Pradyuman Sukhija, Akshra Raghav, Kartik Singh and Esther Pani has transformed an urgent social problem into a viable technological solution. They recently took home the top prize at a national youngpreneur competition for their smart safety band for women and children, Suraksha Sathi, for its innovative design, technical strength and strong social value.

Many of the current safety solutions available, rely on a smartphone or internet connection, but that can be of no use during critical moments. The students created a lightweight wearable device without a screen, that can transmit SOS instant alerts with a single click, can transmit GPS real time location, and can support the function of sending and receiving SMS messages through the GSM network, which can be used offline. The band is built around an ESP32 microcontroller and equipped with GPS, GSM and heart-rate sensors and therefore is preventive and responsive: giving geo-fencing for child safety and continuous health monitoring.

The team took a user first strategy. They focused on simplicity: One SOS button, one easy to use button, means no confusion during a crisis; No screen means no distraction and less maintenance;

 A companion React Native mobile app with a Node.js backend allows parents, schools and first responders to be alerted and provided with location updates. The GSM feature enables the band to send and receive messages and coordinates to specific contacts with no internet, filling a gap in reliability.

The project received positive feedback from the judges for its low-cost hardware, effective software architecture, and its applicability in the real world. One of the judges commented that it is unusual to see student projects that are technically sound and have human-centred design. The team clearly articulated the impact of the work which included an improved speed of emergency response, higher level of confidence among women and children, and lessened burden on families, bolstering their case.

The students are not only getting the award but are also conducting sample deployments with local schools and community organizations to further develop the ergonomics and alert-response processes. The success that they achieved demonstrated not only their technical skills, but also their civic-minded leadership and collaborative efforts, reflecting the values of the Young Preneurs Club at Ryan International School.

How young innovators are able to use the technology, which is accessible, to make a meaningful contribution to the society, is the way Suraksha Sathi works. The way Suraksha Sathi works is that young innovators can use the technology which is accessible and make a meaningful contribution to the society.

Bhubai, Devika, Palak, Devansh, Gauransh, Arya, Pradyuman, Akshra, Kartik and Esther are ready to translate their life-saving concept to a day-to-day reality with a scalable design and testing in the community.
