Kerala Election Results 2026 LIVE: UDF Sweeps 102 Seats, Set to Form Government

Rajeev Chandrasekhar won in Nemom with a margin of 4978 votes. This election also saw the BJP win three seats in Kerala, including Nemom, which is a feat for the party in Kerala politics. Other wins for the BJP include Chathanoor, where BB Gopakumar won against R Rajendran, and V Muraleedharan won in Kazhakootam against top CPM Leader Kadakampally Surendran

First-time contender actor Ramesh Pisharody won in the very controversial Palakkad against BJP's Sobha Surendran with a margin of 13147 votes.

Kerala's favourite in the previous elections of 2021, K K Shailaja, the former health minister of Kerala, who won hearts with her tactical approach and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic list in Paravoor, to Congress candidate Sunny Joseph

Top Congress leaders, including Ramesh Chennithala (Congress), won in Haripad, while the previous opposition leader, VD Satheesan, won from Paravur. 

Following in the legacy of his father, former CM of Kerala Oommen Chandy, Chandy Oommen won with a huge margin in Puthupally, the Chandy Bastion, as declared. While the opposition criticised his win in the by-elections as public sympathy, his effortless campaign on his electric bicycle proved the trust he has in the people of Puthu[ally and the faith the people have in the son of their esteemed leader.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan has won the elections this year in Dharmadom. While the day was full of surprises, including the setback he received trailing in the first few rounds, he got his spot back, emerging the winner in Dharmadam. 

As per the fresh report of ECI, the Indian National Congress's TONY CHAMMANY won the VYPEN seat with a total of 66,112 votes, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s ADV. M. B. SHYNI, with a total of 50,464 votes, lost by a margin of 15,648 votes in the same constituency.

As per the fresh report of ECI, the Indian National Congress's ADV. V.D. SATHEESAN won the PARAVUR seat with a total of 78,658 votes, while the Communist Party of India's E.T. TAISON MASTER, with a total of 58,058 votes, lost by a margin of 20,600 votes in the same constituency.

K. K. Shailaja: In a significant move, the CPI(M) shifted the record-holder from her 2021 seat (Mattannur) to Peravoor for the 2026 elections. This is seen as a strategic party decision to reclaim a seat currently held by the UDF.

Pinarayi Vijayan: He remains at Dharmadam, the seat he has held since 2016, looking to maintain his strong winning streak.

M. M. Mani: The veteran leader, known for his massive influence among estate workers, continues to contest from Udumbanchola, where he secured the state's third-highest margin in 2021.

Under the following circumstances, the postal ballots will be declared invalid

• No vote is recorded.

• Votes are given to more than one candidate.

• The ballot is unmarked or the mark is placed in a way that makes the intent ambiguous.

• The ballot contains any writing or mark by which the voter can be identified.

• The ballot is a "spurious" or fake ballot paper.

Postal ballots are always counted first. Counting typically begins at 8:00 AM. Members of the Armed Forces or those serving outside their constituency are eligible to submit their votes via postal ballots. While older rules required postal ballot counting to finish before starting EVM counting, current protocols allow EVM counting to begin 30 minutes later (around 8:30 AM), even if the postal ballot counting is still ongoing.

Pinarayi Vijayan (LDF):  Contesting from his stronghold, Dharmadam (Kannur). The sitting Chief Minister is looking for a record-breaking third term.

V. D. Satheesan (UDF):  Contesting from Paravur (Ernakulam). As the Leader of the Opposition, he is the primary challenger and has won this seat five times previously.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar (NDA):  Contesting from Nemom (Thiruvananthapuram). The BJP State President and former Union Minister is fighting to reclaim the seat once dubbed the "Gujarat of Kerala" for the BJP.

K. Surendran (NDA):  Contesting from Manjeshwaram (Kasaragod). The BJP leader is in a high-stakes battle in this border constituency where margins are historically razor-thin.

K. K. Rema (UDF/RMPI):  Contesting from Vatakara (Kozhikode). An incumbent who remains a symbol of resistance against the LDF in the Malabar region.

LDF Stability vs. UDF Consolidation: While the LDF largely maintained its 2021 structure, the UDF focused on reclaiming ground in the central Travancore belt that it lost to the LDF in 2021 after the Kerala Congress (M) switched sides.

Emerging Players: The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) remains a critical factor in Northern Kerala (Malabar), continuing its firm alignment with the UDF to challenge the LDF’s dominance.

This year saw a higher voter turnout in Kerala. The key trends for this year is given below

Gender Gap:  A standout feature of 2026 was female voter turnout, which reached an impressive 81.2%, significantly higher than male turnout.

Region-Specific Trends:  Districts in Northern Kerala (Malabar region) like Kozhikode and Kannur continued their tradition of high turnout, often crossing 80%.

Urban vs. Rural:  While urban centres like Thiruvananthapuram (64.03% in 2021) historically show lower enthusiasm, rural and semi-urban constituencies in Palakkad and Wayanad saw heavy polling.

The majority mark in the 140-seat Kerala Assembly is 71. According to the top agency which released the Exit Polls, this year will see a government change with the UDF winning the elections. It is predicted that Kerala will swing back to its declared long tradition of alternating between the LDF and UDF to form a government.

The Kerala Assembly Elections were held on April 9, 2026, in a single phase for 140 constituencies. This year, voter turnout was 78.27% as per reports, which is almost 4,21% higher than the previous elections in 2021, where the voter turnout was 74.06%.

The counting of votes for this year's Kerala Assembly Election 2026 will begin at 8 AM today, May 4, 2026. The fate of 883 candidates from 140 constituencies will be sealed by afternoon today. LDF, UDF and NDA need a majority mark of 71 seats to form a government in Kerala.
