India Post Massive Total in the Final
T20 World Cup finals usually see teams aiming for totals around 180 or 190. However, India went far beyond that benchmark with an explosive batting performance.
India posted a huge 255/5, powered by outstanding innings from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma.
-
Sanju Samson played a brilliant knock of 89 runs off 46 balls, leading the charge.
-
Ishan Kishan provided early momentum with 54 runs from just 25 deliveries.
-
Abhishek Sharma smashed a rapid 52 off 21 balls, giving India a flying start.
After Sharma’s dismissal following his aggressive half-century, Samson and Kishan built a strong 98-run partnership, stabilizing the innings and keeping the scoring rate high.
India crossed the 200-run mark in just 15 overs, although New Zealand briefly slowed things down by dismissing Samson, Kishan, and captain Suryakumar Yadav in the same over.
Toward the end, Shivam Dube delivered a powerful cameo, scoring 26 runs from only 8 balls. His explosive hitting, including 24 runs in the final over against James Neesham, pushed India to a formidable total of 255 runs.
Early Wickets Put India in Control
New Zealand’s chase began with a small lifeline when Finn Allen was dropped by Shivam Dube in the very first over. However, the opportunity did not last long.
Axar Patel dismissed Allen in the third over of the powerplay, putting India ahead. Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah struck with his very first delivery, removing Rachin Ravindra and deepening New Zealand’s problems.
Despite losing wickets regularly, Tim Seifert kept New Zealand’s hopes alive with aggressive batting. He attacked the bowlers and brought up a quick half-century in just 23 balls, eventually scoring 52 runs off 26 deliveries.
Indian Bowlers Seal the Title
India’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the chase. Early breakthroughs and disciplined bowling made the massive target even harder for New Zealand.
Axar Patel delivered a crucial spell, consistently picking wickets and controlling the run rate. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah produced a match-winning performance, dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup.
-
Jasprit Bumrah: 4 wickets for 15 runs
-
Axar Patel: 3 wickets for 27 runs
Once Seifert was dismissed, New Zealand’s resistance faded quickly, effectively ending the contest.
A Historic Victory for India
Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India displayed exceptional teamwork with both bat and ball. While there were a couple of dropped chances in the field, the team also pulled off some outstanding catches.
With this victory, India not only defended their title but also set a new milestone in T20 World Cup history, cementing their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
