What is the History of France?

In fact, France is the place where early hominy ancestors first settled almost two million years ago. Neanderthals originated there by 300,000 B.C. and Cro-Magnons came by 40,000 B.C.

Celtic tribes later migrated to the area and when the Romans conquered it in the second century B.C., they called it Gaul. Full Roman control of Gaul in 51 B.C. by Julius Caesar, and Rome was in decline by 400 A.D. In 1789, a time of violent changes, known as the French Revolution, started, which ultimately led to the overthrow of the monarchy.

In 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte, a general in the French Revolution, made himself leader of France. However, the French supremacy in Europe ended in 1815, when Napoleon was soundly defeated in the battle of Waterloo.
