In a major step toward equitable education, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of DoSEL, officially launched the Career Card for Children with Special Needs, CWSN, on March 31, 2026. Developed in a technical collaboration with UNICEF India, NERT, and the Pratham Education Foundation, these cards are an extension of the national guidance architecture that previously released 500 general career cards in 2024. The new set specifically adapts 150 of these cards into inclusive formats to ensure no learner is left behind in the journey toward Viksit Bharat.
As per the official notification, each card is designed to be user-friendly, providing concise details on job roles, required educational qualifications, and potential professional pathways. By offering early exposure to diverse industries, the cards empower students to align their academic choices with their unique interests and aspirants.
MoE Launches Accessible Career Cards: Alignment with NEP 2020 and Teacher Training
This initiative is deeply rooted in the National Educational Policy, NEP 2020, and the National Curriculum Framework, NCF-SE 2023, which emphasise inclusive skilling and early identification of special needs. During the launch, Secretary Kumar stressed that by 2030, every student completing Class 12 should possess at least one core skill.
To support this rollout, NCERT will develop dedicated training modules for regular teachers in collaboration with SCERTs and DIETs. Furthermore, the Secretary highlighted the urgent need to expedite the appointment of social educators to strengthen institutional capacity across Indian schools. Available now in Braille format, these cards represent a significant milestone in making career counselling universally accessible.
This initiative, launched at New Delhi’s Kartavya Bhawan, aims to bridge the information gap for differently-abled students by offering career pathways in accessible formats like Braille.
