Lokhande Prashant Sitaram Appointed New Chairman of CBSE, Varun Bharadwaj New Secretary Amidst Ongoing OSM Row
CBSE gets new Chairman, Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, replacing former Chairman Rahul Singh and new Secretary Varun Dharadwaj, replacing former Secretary Himanshu Gupta until September 2027.
The Central Board of Secondary Education has appointed Lokhande Prashant Sitaram as the new Chairman of CBSE, replacing former Chairman Rahul Singh. The appointment comes at a time when the board is surrounded by controversies and allegations regarding the newly introduced OSM (On-Screen Marking) for class 12 answer sheet evaluation, portal glitches, answer sheet mishaps, and hacking. Varun Bhardwaj, Director, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has been appointed Secretary (Director level), Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, replacing former Secretary Himanshu Gupta.
Former CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta has been barred from accepting any Central deputation until December 2030 as part of the action taken against him. The newly appointed secretary, Varun Bharadwaj, has been appointed on a deputation basis under the Central Staffing Scheme on a lateral shift until September 2027 (combined tenure of 5 years in Central Staffing Scheme).

CBSE Class 12 Revaluation and Verification Commence
CBSE, on June 2, 2026, opened the portal for candidates to submit their applications for Class 12 answer sheet revaluation and verification. The last date for candidates to apply for the revaluation and answer script verification is June 6, 2026. Students are required to submit the requisite fee based on the number of subjects being sent for revaluation or verification. It must also be noted that only those candidates who have obtained the scanned copies of their answer sheets will be eligible to submit their applications for the answer sheet revaluation and verification process.
