Addressing viral security alarms circulating on social networks, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officially clarified that its live evaluation architecture remains fully secure and unaffected. On February 26, 2026, social media posts alleged that the Board's On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal hosted at cbse.onmarks.co.in had been "compromised," sparking panic among Class 12 students.

On 26 February 2026,the On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal of Central Board of Secondary Education, http://cbse.onmarks.co.in, was allegedly “compromised.”

The Board has made it clear that the URL provided is a testing site, and is used only for sampling purposes and the purpose of reviewing and testing answer-books; it is not the production site used to conduct actual assessments of answer-books.

According to CBSE, the testing site listed at the URL provided in the social post contains fake information and is used for testing purposes only. The actual OSM portal (used for live evaluation) is in a different URL and environment.

The production portal, the Board said, was not compromised and it was not discovered to have the vulnerabilities claimed in the post on social media.

Data Integrity and Result Integrity

CBSE reiterated the point that there is no real evaluation data, real marks and student personal data saved on the testing site. The Board is confident that there are no reports of any security breaches on the production portal installed for the actual evaluation work.

Recorded marks are not affected by the incident at the testing-site and the integrity of assessment processes is not compromised.

The Board noted that the OSM system has been introduced to increase transparency of assessing, and has built-in grievance redressal procedures. CBSE assures all stakeholders that it has implemented several safeguards to ensure the secure evaluation environment and student information on the live platform.

What Should Students and Parents Do?

Check information on the official website of CBSE and from official communication from the school and the Board. Do not see or respond to unverified social claims that could cause unnecessary worry.

If your suspicion is that there is an error in the evaluation of your paper or in the marks allotted, follow the formal grievance procedure laid out by the CBSE (not rumors).

The issue of compromise raised was for a non-production testing site, and only sample data. CBSE says that the production OSM portal used for the actual exams was secure and unaffected. It is to be noted that all the stakeholders must depend on the official notifications issued by the CBSE and if there are any such concerns they should use the established grievance mechanism.
