Here are some of the clearest lakes in India, which have complete transparency with no filth or pollution of any kind: 

  1. Pangong Tso, Ladakh 

Pangong Tso is located in Ladakh at an elevation of 4,225 meters above sea level. India possesses 40 percent of the Pangong Tso lake while the rest lies geographically in Tibet. Pangong is a Tibetan word which translates to high grassland lake. This lake requires a special permit called Inner Line Permit required to travel to this area. 

  1. Chandratal Lake, Himachal Pradesh 

Chandratal Lake is situated in the hills of Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. This lake has been given the title of Moon Lake because of its crescent shape. Located at an elevation of 4,300 meters, the colour of this lake keeps changing based on the movement of the sun such as turquoise, blue, green and orange. 

  1. Sattal, Uttarakhand 

Sattal is a cluster of seven lakes namely Purna Tal, Sita Tal, Ram Tal, Lakshman Tal, Sukha Tal, Garud Tal and Nal Damyanti Tal. These lakes are famous for being the perfect spot for birdwatching. It has over 500 migratory birds which visit the lakes around the year, some of these are exotic in nature and rarely seen in the world. 

  1. Tsomgo Lake, Sikkim 

Tsomgo Lake is also known as Changu Lake, located in the Eastern Sikkim region of India. This lake lies in the Indo-China border which requires a Protected Area Permit to travel to this area. One interesting facts about this lake is that it remains frozen from December to March. Rest of the months the lake is crystal clear. 

  1. Dawki Lake, Meghalaya 

Dawki Lake has a striking colour of emerald green, located in Meghalaya, India. The lake is famous for the “floating effect”. The water is so transparent that the lake appears to give an illusion of floating midway.
