The Punjab Government has officially announced summer vacations for all schools across the state from 1st June to 30th June 2026 in view of the ongoing heatwave and rising temperatures. The decision applies to all the government, government-aided and private schools in Punjab. The notification was issued by the Secretary of the School Education Department, in the official order, the educational institutes across the state will remain closed for one month to safeguard students and schools staff from extreme weather conditions. Punjab has been experiencing intense heatwave conditions over the past few weeks, therefore the authorities took the precautionary measures to close the schools for one month from 1st to 30th June 2026. The state has also revised the office and school timings to reduce exposure to high daytime temperatures.
Schools are expected to reopen from 1st July 2026 but as of now there is no official notice. Neighbouring states and union territories have also taken similar steps amid the heatwave situation. Haryana has announced summer vacation from 25th May to 30th June while Chandigarh schools have extended their summer break till the end of June.
