Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority Replaces Madrasa Board from July 1; Here's What Changes
Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority has officially replaced the Madrasa Board from 1st July 2026. Know its role, objectives, key changes and how it’ll regulate the minority educational institutions.
The Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority officially came into existence on 1st July 2026 by replacing the former Uttarakhand Madrasa Board. The move marks the implementation of the Uttarakhand Minority Educational Institutions Act 2025, under which all minority educational institutions in the state including those run by Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi communities will now be regulated by a single statutory authority.
The state government had said that the new authorities aim to establish a uniform regulatory framework for minority educational institutions while aligning them with the objectives of National Education Policy (NEP) and the national curriculum. The transition officially took effect into the starting of the 2026-27 academic year.
What will Change for Minority Educational Institutions?
- All minority educational institutions will work under a single regulatory framework
- Eligible institutions from six notified minority communities can seek recognition under the authority

Composition of Authority
The State Minority Education Authority consists of a Chairperson, nominated members representing minority communities, ex-officio members from key education departments, including school education, SCERT, and Minority Welfare. According to the state government, the authorities have been constituted to ensure inclusive representation while overseeing minority education across Uttarakhand.
Government’s Objective
The Uttarakhand Government has stated that the new authority is intended to modernize minority education by promoting standardized academic practices, improving educational quality and implementing the national education policy. The administration has also emphasized the inclusion of subjects such as science, maths, social sciences in line with the state curriculum framework.
The authority replaces the Madrasa Board and expands regulatory oversight to all recognized minority educational institutions. The state government believes that it’ll create a more uniform, inclusive and modern education system while strengthening the implementation of the National Education Policy across minority institutions.
