Tamil Nadu Names Ex-ISRO Scientist Mylswamy Annadurai to Head School Syllabus Revamp Committee
Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has reconstituted its Curriculum Design Committee for a three-year tenure, appointing former ISRO Director Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai as Chairman. The expert panel will modernize the school syllabus by eliminating rote learning and integrating advanced STEM, foundational coding, climate awareness, and financial literacy.
Tamil Nadu: As part of the efforts being made towards making school education more up-to-date, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has reconstituted the Curriculum Design Committee. Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai, who is a highly reputed aerospace scientist as well as the former Director of ISRO who has been chosen as the Chairman of the panel to replace Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, who is an acclaimed biologist. It has been decided in light of the latest government order (G.O.) that the reconstituted panel will be for three years after the formation of the state government.

With the leadership of Dr. Annadurai, the department has maintained a multidisciplinary group of distinguished academics and subject matter specialists. Apart from that, an activist of the Right to Education (RTE) movement, Anantajit Makia, has been nominated to the panel.

This newly formed expert group will include 21st century skills map into the classroom assessment techniques, moving away from the conventional memorization process. The new curriculum will include advanced STEM learning and computing, providing children with basic coding knowledge, logic, and a scientific approach from a young age. Moreover, this syllabus will highlight society and environment integration through awareness about climate change and sustainability modules along with employability by means of financial literacy and practical problem solving.
