Odisha Schools Summer Vacation Extended

The state government has announced an extension of the summer vacation for schools and anganwadi centres in five heatwave-affected districts. Initially scheduled to reopen on June 18, educational institutions in these districts will now remain closed till June 20 due to the severe rise in temperature.

Districts Where Schools Will Remain Closed

The extended holiday applies to the following districts:

  • Bolangir

  • Sonepur

  • Ganjam

  • Angul

  • Sundargarh

Heatwave Conditions Continue Across Odisha

Several parts of Odisha continue to experience extreme heat, with Boudh recording 42.7°C, while Sambalpur, Hirakud, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, and Titlagarh also reported temperatures above 40°C. The IMD has forecast that heatwave conditions are likely to persist until June 21, prompting authorities to extend the school closure.

Revised School Timings in Nuapada District

While schools remain closed in the five districts, authorities in Nuapada district have opted for modified school timings instead of a complete closure. Classes will be conducted from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM between June 18 and June 20 to help students avoid peak daytime temperatures.
