The goal is to enhance infrastructure, upgrade training standards, and ensure uniformity in the quality of forensic investigation and training through healthy competition. Home Ministry to Introduce Annual Ranking Framework for Police Training Institutes and Forensic Labs From 2027

Ministry of Home Affairs, MHA New system to rank, grade the performance every year. It will come into effect from 2027. To enhance infrastructure, upgrade training standards and ensure uniformity in quality of forensic investigation and training process in India. According to an official order recently issued by the Ministry, the Government will start ranking police training institutes and forensic laboratories from the year 2027.

It is aimed to improve the morale of police training institutes and create healthy competition among themselves for improving training standards, the order read. The ministry has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all states, union territories and central police forces.

According to SOPs, the BPR&D will issue invitation for nominations up to April 1. Eligible police training institutions in states, UTs, CAPFs and CPOs may submit application in prescribed format up to April 15.

Ranking will be done annually and will be declared in the month of August. 

“Top three ranked institutes in each group of states/UTs and CAPFs/CPOs will be awarded certificates. List of ranking and marks obtained will be published on the website,” it added.
