Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Sachin Tendulkar Record with Historic India Debut vs England

The day has finally come. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who is just 15 years and 99 day old has officially become the youngest Indian male player in the history of international cricket. The left-handed batter achieved this historic feat in the second T20 India vs England match happening at Old Trafford on Saturday. He was handed his maiden cap by Tilak Varma ahead of the second Ind vs Eng T20  match. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has thus shattered the 37 year old record of Sachin Tendulkar as the Youngest Indian debutant in the history of men’s international cricket. Not just that Sooryavanshi has also become the youngest cricketer in the overall international cricket rankings. The record was previously held by Shafali Verma who is just a few days older than Sooryavanshi with her debut in September 2019.

Sachin Tendulkar’s debut in international cricket as a 16 year and 205 day old boy against Pakistan in 1989 was the gold standard for Indian cricketing talent for almost four decades. Sooryavanshi did not just clip that record but practically he rewrote it by over a year.

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed at the toss that there was zero external pressure to play the prodigy. Instead his unmatched fearless approach demanded his selection in the playing 11 against England. 

And the decision bore immediate fruits as the youngster walked out to open the batting. He smashed 14 runs off just 10 balls which also included two sixes. His opening score gave a good start to the team in the power play.

Both left-handers are coincidentally from Bihar and are at the top of the order to offer India a highly dynamic and aggressive powerplay score that can survive the pressure in later overs throughout the match.
