Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Tamil Nadu on 23 April 2026 to elect all 234 members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Tamilisai Soundararajan
Tamilisai Soundararajan, a former state BJP president and ex-Governor of Telangana, is contesting from Mylapore in Chennai, marking her fourth attempt at an Assembly election in Tamil Nadu. Mylapore is one of Chennai's most prominent urban constituencies and her candidature here signals the BJP's intent to make inroads into the capital city.
L. Murugan
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, will contest from the Avanashi Assembly segment, continuing his political journey after a previous unsuccessful attempt in the Dharapuram segment during the last elections.
Nainar Nagendran
Nainar Nagendran, the current state president of BJP, is set to run from the Sattur segment in Virudhunagar, departing from his previous constituency in Tirunelveli, where he has been successful in multiple elections.
The BJP's 2026 Tamil Nadu candidate list reflects a clear strategy which is to use big national names in key urban seats while leaning on NDA allies for the broader seat count. The BJP's previous performance in the state has been challenging, with the party only managing to secure four out of the 20 seats it contested during the last Assembly elections in 2021.
