The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the Round 2 seat allotment results for admissions to Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Candidates allotted seats in the second round must complete the online reporting process on 3rd July 2026 by 5:00 PM. The second round witnessed notable trends, including NIT Admissions at ranks as high as AIR 13,90,116 in the gender neutral pool and AIR 14,97,038 in the female pool. The JoSAA counselling process is being conducted for admission to 67,323 seats across 134 participating institutes.

JoSAA Counselling 2026: NIT Admission Offered AIR 13.9 Lakh

According to Amit Ahuja, a career counselling expert at Allen Career Institute, one of the biggest highlights of round 2 was that the candidate with AIR Rank 13,90,116 in the gender- neutral pool (Open Category) secured admission to Chemical Engineering at NIT Mizoram under Home State Quota.

Similarly, under the female pool, a candidate with AIR Rank 14,97,038 received admission to Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Mizoram through the Home State quota. These allotments indicate that candidates with relatively high All India Ranks may still secure seats in selected institutes and branches depending on category, ranks, gender pool, quota and seat availability.

IIT Closing Ranks in Round 2

  • The Gender- neutral pool closed at AIR 17,059 for Chemical Science (5-Year Program) at IIT Dhanbad.
  • The female pool, including extra seats, closed AIR 27,712 for Materials Science and Engineering at IIT Jammu.

Dual Verification for Upgraded Candidates: How and Why?

Candidates whose seats have changed from an IIT to NIT or from NIT to IIT in Round 2 will undergo Dual Document Verification. This process only occurs if you choose the Float or Slide option in Round 1 and your Round 2 Seat Allotment shifts you. Their previously uploaded document will be re-verified by the newly allotted institute before the seat is confirmed. However, candidates who have received an upgraded seat within the same category of institute for example, IIT to IIT or NIT to NIT, and had already selected the float or slide option in Round 1 will not be required to upload their documents again. Their previously verified documents will be used for confirming the new allotment.

JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 2: Float, Slide and Freeze Options

Candidates participating in JoSAA Counselling can modify their willingness option after each round:

  • Float: Accept the allotted seat but remain eligible for a better seat in any participating institute
  • Slide: Accept the institute while seeking a better branch within the same institute
  • Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and exit further rounds of counselling

Candidates who selected Float can later switch to Slide or Freeze, while those who have selected Slide can opt for Freeze in further rounds based on their admission preferences.

The JoSAA Counselling Round 2 Results highlight that the admission opportunities remain available across participating institutes even at higher All India Ranks, particularly under specific quota and seat pools. Candidates allotted seats should complete online reporting by 3rd July 2026 before 5:00 PM. Also respond to the document verification queries by 5th July to avoid cancellation.
