Admission to B.Tech in colleges through TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2026) is expected to begin soon. Till then, students can check the previous year closing ranks to estimate the expected closing rank for final allotment of seats. Find relevant details and admission information below.
TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) 2026 Cutoff for CEG Chennai can be calculated through previous year trends. To understand the closing rank, which will determine the admission in top B.Tech programs in CEG (The College of Engineering, Guindy). Affiliated with Anna university, the College of Engineering Guindy is among the top colleges that accept admission based on TNEA final allotment.
The TNEA 2026 rank has been published on the official website tneaonline.org on June 29, 2026. This is a state-level merit rank allotted to each student in Tamil Nadu. Since Tamil Nadu TNEA doesn't have an entrance exam, the rank and merit list are assigned as per students’s Class 12 (HSC) marks. Candidates can check a detailed breakdown of previous years and expected TNEA 2026 closing ranks (caetgory-wise) for top branches offered in CEG below.
Previous Year Round 1 Branch-wise Closing Ranks
The table represents previous year's TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) closing rank for branches like Bio Medical engineering, civil engineering etc. The closing ranks for different categories such as open category, backward class, backward class (muslim), scheduled tribe, and scheduled tribe show major gaps and variation for seat allotment.
Candidates can observe that open category candidates that landed seat allotment for Bio medical engineering (self supported) was at 4, 207 rank, whereas BC and SC category candidates received 7,611 and 14,631, respectively. There is not much gap between OC and BC categories closing ranks. However, BCM, SC and ST candidates receive flexibility in seat allocation. This indicates competition and variation in seat preference. Similarly, candidates can check for closing rank distribution of Computer science engineering and other top branches of B.Tech program.
For the self-supported course, candidates have to finance the program on their own.

Expected Round 1 Branch-wise Closing Ranks
The expected round 1 branch-wise closing ranks are derived from the previous year's trends of TNEA 2025 seat allocation. Here too, candidates can analyse the closing rank variation in categories for top branches.
Taking an example of Computer Science and Engineering (self-supported) the closing ranks for open category candidates range from 180 - 230. This is because for self-financed programs, closing ranks are lower than expected. Whereas for the regular CSE program, the fees are lower, but the closing rank at which students get admission is high, indicating competitiveness and variance in the distribution of seats.

For admission to any of the top branches through TNEA ranks, depends on which course type you are choosing. If going for a self-supported branch, the cutoff will be lower, but the admission fee will be high. This applies to both government and private engineering colleges. While, if you are going for the regular CSE program, the fees will be low but cutoff remain high. This applies for all the branches; therefore, when going for the choice-filling process, candidates can make decision by analyzing previous year and expected closing ranks.
