The National Council of Educational Research and Training has issued an important alert for school students, parents and teachers after a class 9th social science textbook began circulating widely on social media and other messaging platforms. The council has made it clear that the viral book is not an official NECRT publication book and is being falsely presented as genuine study material. Students Asked to Stay Cautious

According to NCERT, no textbook is printed, shared, or made public before it goes through the official release process. This is why any book claiming to be a new or unreleased NCERT edition on social media should be treated with caution. The council stressed that many such materials found online may be edited, incomplete, or entirely fabricated. If students prepare from such content they may end up learning incorrect information which can affect both their understanding of the subject and their performance in exams. NCERT has therefore advised students, teachers and parents to check the authenticity of any book, notes, or educational material before accepting it as reliable.

Use Only Official Sources

NCERT has also reminded the public that its books and educational content are protected under copyright law. Printing, copying, selling, sharing, or distributing NCERT material without permission is illegal and may invite action under the Copyright Act, 1957, along with other applicable rules. The council said official digital textbooks are available free of cost through the NCERT website and the e-Pathshala portal, and these should be the only trusted sources for downloading books. It also warned people not to rely on unauthorized websites, apps, or social media pages claiming to provide NCERT textbooks or pre-release copies. NCERT has said it is already taking steps against those spreading fake and pirated material and has encouraged the public to report suspicious books, links, websites, apps, or channels through email so timely action can be taken.
