The University of Mumbai has introduced an Apprenticeship-Embedded Bachelor of Engineering, B.E. Programme to provide engineering students with hands-on industry experience with their academic studies. The initiative has been approved by the university’s Academic Council under the Faculty of Science and Technology and is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and AICTE guidelines.

Under the new programme, eligible final-year B.E. students will be able to pursue a structured apprenticeship in their seventh and eighth semesters to gain practical exposure while completing their engineering degree.

Mumbai University Apprenticeship-Embedded B.E. Programme: Key Details

The new AEDP is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom education and industry requirements. According to details released by the university, up to 15% of final-year B.E. students will be eligible to participate in the apprenticeship programme.

Students selected for the programme will have to complete one year of apprenticeship training, including at least 1,260 hours of practical training. Successful completion of the apprenticeship will carry 42 academic credits.

What is Mumbai University's Apprenticeship-Embedded B.E. Programme?

The Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programme integrates academic learning with structured workplace training. Instead of completing an engineering degree entirely through classroom-based education, students participating in the programme will get an opportunity to work in an industry environment and apply their technical knowledge to real-world projects.

The programme is intended to expose students to industry processes, modern technologies, quality standards and professional work practices.

Mumbai University AEDP: Who Can Participate?

The programme will be available to a limited number of final-year B.E. students. Up to 15% of students in the final year will be eligible to undertake the apprenticeship in the seventh and eighth semesters.

Students who are interested in participating should check the university's detailed eligibility conditions, selection process and instructions once they are issued by the concerned department or college.

Mumbai University AEDP to Offer Practical Industry Exposure

During the apprenticeship, students will be able to apply concepts learned in classrooms to actual workplace situations. The practical experience is expected to help students develop technical and professional skills while gaining an understanding of how engineering processes operate in industry.

The programme can also help students become more familiar with workplace expectations before they enter the job market.
