Maharashtra State CET Cell has recorded a massive surge in registrations for 2026, with over 18.12 lakh candidates registered for various professional courses. This marks a 28% increase from the previous year, driven largely by digital outreach and increased participation from rural areas.

Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test, CET Cell, has achieved a significant milestone in 2026, recording approximately 18.12 lakh student registrations. This figure represents a substantial 28% inccrease compared to the previous academic year, highlightingva surging demand for professional education across the state. The CET Cell manages entrance examinations for 17 professional courses, including engineering. pharmacy, and agriculture.

The data reveals that the growth is not just limited to urban centres. Digital initiatives and technology-enabled examination systems have successfully bridged the rural-urban divide. According to official reports, students from rural areas now account for a significant portion of the applicant pool, contributing to the state’s goal of improving the Gross Enrollment Ratio, GER.

To manage this unprecedented volume of candidates, the CET Cell has expanded its Computer-Based Testing, CBT, infrastructure. This shift ensures transparency, scalability, and standardised assessment for both PCM, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and PCB, Physics, Chemistry, Biology groups. Furthermore, the introduction of the CET-ATAL assessment tests, which include mock exams and psychometric tools, has helped students from remote regions gain confidence in digital testing formats.

Looking ahead, the CET Cell has set an ambitious target of reaching 18 lakh unique student participations annually by the 2029-2030 period. To support this, the authority has proposed establishing extension centres across all 36 districts of Maharashtra. These centres will assist students who lack personal digital devices, ensuring that the Centralised Admission Process, CAP, remains inclusive and accessible to all.
