The decision was taken after continuous heatwave alerts issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and growing concerns over students safety. According to the reports, Lucknow District Magistrate directed all the schools across education boards to immediately suspend classes due to severe weather conditions. Officials stated that several schools were still operating despite repeated heat advisories, this prompted urgent action from the administration.
The move comes as several parts of North India continue to record temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius. The IMD has already issued severe heatwave warnings for multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh, including all the other districts such as Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj. Apart from Lucknow, many other states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal have almost extended the summer vacations or revised school timings to protect students from the severe heat related illnesses.
