IIT Roorkee Dismisses JEE Advanced 2026 Discrepancy Claims, Finds No Evidence of Malpractice
JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Roorkee dismissed viral social media claims alleging discrepancies in JEE Advanced 2026 results, calling the circulated mark lists fabricated. Officials clarified that significant score variations between Paper 1 and Paper 2 occurred in only two top-10,000 candidates. A thorough audit confirmed no malpractice, ensuring data security before JoSAA counseling.
JEE Advanced 2026: According to IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute behind JEE Advanced 2026, there is absolutely no validity behind the widely circulated claims about the existence of significant inconsistencies and disparities in the marks and rank lists of candidates in regard to the examination held earlier this year. These claims came into existence after certain lists surfaced on social media sites which demonstrated huge differences in the results between paper one and paper two for candidates. IIT Roorkee issued a press release clarifying that none of the lists mentioned above were related to actual marks scored by candidates in any way.
When asked specifically about the issue of score variation between the two papers, IIT Roorkee stated that a large difference was seen in the scores of just two out of the top ten thousand ranking candidates. It was further clarified by IIT Roorkee that this variation was a common annual occurrence during the exams, not anything unusual. Lastly, it was stated that a thorough audit of the entire data was conducted without the discovery of any cheating or manipulation of results.
The Key Highlights
-
Unreal Mark Lists: According to IIT Roorkee, the marks list and breakdown that were making rounds in social media were totally fabricated and did not match anything in the records.
-
Inconsistencies Between Papers: Regarding reports of huge differences in marks between the two papers among the rankers, IIT officials said that there were marked differences only in 2 out of the 10,000 rankers. The officials added that differences between two papers were a natural occurrence and recorded every year.
-
No Evidence of Any Wrongdoing: Upon examination of all records, no evidence was found of cheating, data manipulation, help or any other malpractices during the exam process.
The explanation came after another incident involving an independent technical occurrence, where a 16-year-old ethical hacker reported a flaw in cloud-storage configuration of the results portal. The flaw was quickly addressed by IIT Roorkee and the Ministry of Education, and the flaw was stated to be only "read-only," hence there had been no manipulation of scores or rankings, nor any large-scale extraction of data from the results database. With 56,880 out of 1.79 lakh aspirants qualifying, the entire attention will now be paid to JoSAA counselling.
