IIT Programs 2026: New Courses Students Can Consider

IIT Madras has launched two new B.Tech programmes for 2025-26: Computational Engineering and Mechanics and Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering. These newly added courses are designed as per AI-driven engineering, advanced manufacturing, medical devices, healthcare technology and digital systems. Both programmes are available through JoSAA and have been added to match the fast changing industry demand.

IIT Delhi has also expanded its options with a new program called Bachelor of Technology in Design. As per the institute this programme combines technology, creativity, design thinking, and problem solving to prepare students for real world challenges. Admission to these courses is based on JEE Advanced results but students also need to qualify UCEED. Along with such additions the overall programme list for 2026 shows that IITs are gradually opening more interdisciplinary study paths for students who want careers beyond traditional engineering branches.

JoSAA Counselling 2026: What Students Should Know Before Filling Choices

JoSAA 2026 is handling admissions for 138 institutes this year. These include 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 56 other GFTIs. This means students should not rush their choices only based on popular branch names. Students must also compare course content wise, career scope, institute reputation and their own personal interest before confirming their preferences. Admission to IITs and IISc is based on JEE advanced 2026 rank while admission in NIT+ system depends on JEE Mains 2026 rank. As the counseling has already started candidates must carefully check the programme list, understand eligibility rules and fill choices in correct order.
