Pasta is a staple food of Italian cuisine. Evidence shows that Etruscans made pasta as early as 400 BCE in Italy. Pasta comes in different shapes, with over 600 shapes. Did you know 25th October is celebrated as 'World Pasta Day'?

The word 'pasta' literally means dough in Italian. Arab travellers introduced dried pasta to Europe. While noodles originated in China about 4,000 years ago, the story of Marco Polo introducing pasta to Italy from China in 1271 is a myth.

Did you know the third president of the United States is credited with bringing the first macaroni machine to America in 1789, after he returned from serving as the ambassador to France?

Speaking of production and consumption, Italy is the world's largest leading pasta producer. It produces nearly 4 million tonnes annually, followed by the U.S., Turkey, and Egypt. 

Pastas are not shaped just for aesthetic looks. They are designed differently to hold different types of sauces. While some pastas are good for thick sauces, some are good with cream-based or oily sauces.

In the image above, we have four types of pastas. Your challenge is to name them all. You have 45 seconds to answer what they are called in English?

First, we have a pasta type that has a distinctive corkscrew, or spiral shape.

Second, we have a cylinder-shaped pasta. It is tubular with angled ends.

Third type of pasta is characterised by flat rectangles or squares pinched tightly in the center to create a bow-tie shape. The name of this pasta mean 'butterflies' in Italian.

Fourth, we have a long, thin, and cylinderical pasta shape. It's name means 'little strings' in Italian.
