The Kerala Legislative Assembly Election 2026 is one of the most closely watched state elections in India this year. The Election Commission of India (ECI) officially announced the schedule on 15 March 2026, setting in motion a high-stakes political contest between three major alliances.

The PIB mentions: “Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the General Election to Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and Bye-election to 8 (Eight) Assembly Constituencies of Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Tripura on March 15, 2026.”

All constituencies across Kerala will vote on the same day in a single phase which is a format that the state has followed consistently in recent elections. This article covers everything you need to know: the number of seats, voting date, result date, full election timeline, voter statistics, and the complete list of all constituencies.

How Many Seats Are There in the Kerala Assembly?

The Kerala Legislative Assembly consists of 140 seats. All of these constituencies go to the polls in a single phase which makes it one of the more streamlined state elections in India.

The current assembly was constituted after the April 2021 elections, in which the Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), won a decisive mandate by securing 99 out of 140 seats  making Pinarayi Vijayan the Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. The tenure of the current assembly is scheduled to end on 23 May 2026.

When Will Voting Take Place?

Voting for the Kerala Assembly Election 2026 will take place on Thursday, 9 April 2026. The PIB release mentions: “A total of 1,955 candidates are in the fray for the elections to the legislative assemblies of the States of Assam and Kerala and the UT of Puducherry and bye elections in 4 states which go to polls on April 9, 2026.”

This is a single-phase election, meaning all 140 constituencies vote on the same day. The counting of votes will happen on 4 May 2026, and results are expected to be declared on the same day.
