India will host the first high-level conference of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chairperson. This historic event will enhance internal security coordination in response to the changing threats.
It is the first conference of its kind, with the entire attention being on CAPFs, such as CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Prime minister Narendra Modi will be the chairperson and this will bring to the fore the highest level of commitment to the unity of internal security strategies.
It provides a platform where the CAPF leadership discusses rising issues like insurgency, left wing extremism, and cyber threats. Preparation of agendas is under the Intelligence Bureau, and all the CAPF formations should make their contribution to the same by the first week of next month.
Key Objectives
Improving the interaction between CAPFs and intelligence agencies, as well as among the state police forces, is at the top of the agenda. Intelligence exchange, combined efforts and simplified communication to respond to threats more quickly will be discussed.
This is in the wake of recent laws that have codified the IPS deputation policies on the leadership of CAPF with key posts such as chiefs and higher ranks being reserved to IPS officers. This guarantees stability in hierarchy and encourages cooperation.
Significance of the Conference
This effort deals with multi-faceted security challenges that are interconnected with each other by institutionalised conversations. It may result in frequent high-level conferences, which will form a proactive internal security framework in addition to the annual DGP/IG conferences.
This coincides with the continued struggle against left-wing extremism in central and eastern India, with CAPFs taking a central role.
CAPFs Background
CAPFs play an important role in the internal security of India and border guarding, counter-insurgency, and VIP protection. The Intelligence Bureau, the oldest internal intelligence agency in India, assists these forces by providing them with vital inputs.
