What is the AFCAT Exam?
The Air Force Common Admission Test, popularly known by the term AFCAT, is conducted by the Indian Air Force. The first one is a written exam, and the second stage involves a testing process.

What is the CDS Exam?
The Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission twice a year for recruitment to different defense academies like the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Air Force Academy (AFA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and Officer Training Academy (OTA). CDS attracts more applicants than AFCAT because it offers a variety of courses across three services. CDS releases a higher number of vacancies compared to AFCAT. This makes CDS a more competitive exam.

CDS vs. AFCAT Eligibility Criteria
Before you apply for CDS and AFCAT entry, you must know the eligibility criteria required. The eligibility criteria are different for both entries. It also depends on the types of courses you choose.

AFCAT VS CDS Pay Scale & Allowances
1. AFCAT Pay scale generally depends on the rank of the officer, but according to the official notification, the pay scale ranges between Rs 56,100/- and 177,500/-. Candidates must also know the flight cadets will receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100. In addition to pay scale, there are certain types of allowances that depend upon place of posting, such as flying allowance, transport allowance, technical allowance, test pilot & flight test engineer allowance, risk and hardship allowance, etc. They also get medical insurance of Rs 1.25 Cr.

CDS For CDS, the pay scale remains generally the same according to the equivalent rank in all 3 forces; according to the official notification, the pay scale ranges between Rs 56,100/- and Rs 250,000/-. During training candidates receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100. In addition to this, there are different types of allowances like risk allowance, hardship allowance, dearness allowance, and dress allowance. Similar to AFCAT, they receive the same medical benefits.
