UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is a state-level teaching exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC). The UPTET is conducted to assess the eligibility of the candidates to teach primary and upper primary levels. Paper 1 is conducted to assess the eligibility for primary levels (classes 1 to 5) and Paper 2 for upper primary levels (classes 6 to 8). The eligibility criteria for both the papers and levels vary. If a candidate possesses qualifications to appear for both the papers, then it is also allowed.

Those candidates who wish to apply for either the primary or upper primary level examination must check the eligibility criteria for the respective papers. Candidates must mandatorily fulfill the eligibility criteria in order to apply for UPTET 2026. Those who do not meet the requirements, will not be allowed to fill the application form.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria for Primary Teachers (Classes 1 to 5)
The candidates who wish to become primary teachers must have to appear for Paper 1 and possess the following educational qualifications:

Graduation from an institution recognized by the NCTE, along with a two-year diploma in Elementary Education (D.L.Ed / BTC).

Graduation, along with a two-year diploma in Elementary Education (D.L.Ed).

Graduation, along with a two-year diploma in Special Education (D.Ed). Alternatively, Graduation from an NCTE-recognized institution in Uttar Pradesh, along with BTC training.
UPTET Eligibility Criteria for Primary Teachers (Classes 6 to 8)
Those who are planning to build a career in teaching upper primary levels (classes 6 to 8) have to appear for UPTET Paper 2 and must have the following educational qualifications:

Graduation, along with a two-year diploma in Elementary Education (D.L.Ed / BTC). A minimum of 50% marks in graduation and a one-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree.

A minimum of 45% marks in graduation and a B.Ed degree.

Intermediate (10+2) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (D.L.Ed) degree.

Intermediate (10+2) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed degree.
What is the Age Limit for UPTET 2026?
To appear for the UPTET 2026, the minimum age should be 18 years old and the maximum age is decided as per the category of the candidate. The UPESSC accepts the Matriculation (Class 10) marksheet or an equivalent certificate as proof of date of birth for the TET examination.

Age Relaxation:
As per the official notification, candidates belonging to OBC, SC, and ST categories are granted an age relaxation of 5 years. Candidates with Disabilities are granted an age relaxation of 15 years, while Ex-Servicemen are granted an age relaxation of 5 years.
How many Attempts for the UPTET Exam?
There is no limit on the number of attempts for the UPTET examination. This means the candidates can appear for the UPTET exam as far as they fall within the prescribed age limit.
