NIT Jalandhar is the top choice for engineering students across North India. Now that the JEE Main 2026 result is out, the focus of students is now shifted towards JoSAA 2026 counselling. Most candidates are currently checking the opening and closing rank trends to figure out their chances of getting their preferred course.
Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT Jalandhar) has earned its reputation through tough academic standards and a solid track record of placements. Whether a student is aiming for the high-demand Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) seats or looking into specialised branches such as Textile Technology, students need to know how the ranks move through each round.

Home State vs. Other State: The Quota Advantage
The gap between Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) ranks is quite large. Take Civil Engineering as an example. If you belong to Punjab, you might get in with a rank around 62,000. But for students from other states, that door usually closes much earlier, around the 45,000–46,000 mark.
CSE remains one of the toughest branches to crack at NIT Jalandhar. If you’re an OS candidate, you’ll likely need to stay within the top 12,000 to stand a chance by the final round.
If you just miss out on CSE, new options like Data Science and VLSI Engineering are excellent alternatives. We’re also seeing a huge surge in Mathematics and Computing. Its cutoff is now almost the same as IT's, mostly because more students are eyeing high-paying roles in algorithmic trading and cybersecurity.
