The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has instructed evaluators to follow step marking during the evaluation of UP Board Exams 2026. Under this system, students can receive partial marks for correct steps even if the final answer is incorrect, especially in subjects like mathematics and science.

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has introduced a step marking system for the evaluation of answer sheets in the UP Board Exams 2026. The new directive aims to ensure fair assessment and offer students marks for correct steps even if their final answer is incorrect.

According to the Board instructions, evaluators checking answer copies will award marks for each correct step written by students, particularly in subjects such as mathematics and science. This means that even if the final answer is incorrect, students can still secure partial marks if their method or intermediate steps are correct.

UP Board Exam 2026: Step Marking to Benefit Students in Evaluations

The evaluators have been asked to carefully review answer sheets and identify the correct steps while checking descriptive and numerical questions.

  • The aim of introducing step marking is to ensure that students do not lose all marks for a question due to minor calculation mistakes.
  • Often, students follow the correct method but make a small error in the final stage of solving a problem.
  • With the implementation of step marking, such students will not receive credit for their understanding of the concept and problem-solving approach.

The board conducts Class 10 (High School) and Class 12 (Intermediate) examinations for lakhs of students every year across the state. The introduction of step marking in the evaluation process is expected to make the marking system more student-friendly and balanced for the upcoming examination cycle.
