RTE Gujarat Admissions Start Today! Online registration for Class 1 admissions under the Right to Education, RTE Act for the 2026-27 academic year in Ahmedabad will open on Saturday 4th April, 2026 and run until April 17. This process offers a significant opportunity for economically weaker and middle-class families to secure admission for their children in private schools. This year, approximately 84,000 seats are available across the state, a decrease from the roughly 94,000 seats offered last year. According to RTE rules, private schools must reserve 25% of their total Class 1 seats for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Important Changes and Seat Availability
Parents have been given adequate time to gather the necessary documents for a smooth application process. The seats are distributed across various mediums: over 41,000 in Gujarati, 40,262 in English, 2,235 in Hindi, and 320 in other languages. There are two major updates to the admission process this year:
- School Shift Selection: Parents can now choose their preferred school shift (morning or afternoon) in addition to the school itself, an option that was not available previously.
- Revised Priority Criteria: The order of preference for admissions has changed. This year, priority will be given to children from reserved categories over children from anganwadi centres.
