The officials of Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) noticed discrepancies in the candidate-wise OMR answer sheets and cancelled the MSc Nursing entrance test minutes before the start of the test.

The test was supposed to be conducted at various centres within the union territory, but with the sudden change, many students were stranded outside the centres and caused frustration and anxiety in the way of students and families who had been preparing for months.

Why was the MSc Nursing Entrance Test Cancelled?

An in-house verification process by JKBOPEE officials revealed that there was a mismatch in OMR sheets with the details of some applicants, raising doubts over the integrity of the process of evaluation and the accuracy of the scoring, officials said.

The fact that it was impacting candidate-specific answer sheets and not a one-off glitch meant that the authorities decided not to delay the test but to cancel it outright to avoid any potential unfairness and give a comprehensive investigation the chance to reach the root of the problem and the scale of the discrepancy.

The MSc Nursing entrance test was a crucial exam for many, impacting admission to scarce seats for postgraduate nursing programs; the sudden cancellation caused disruptions in study schedules, travel plans, and psychological preparation.

Some candidates expressed confusion about communication and wanted to know when the exam was going to take place again and what the next steps were.

What was the Government’s Take on the Incident?

JKBOPEE has committed to an investigation to look into the root cause and magnitude of the OMR mismatches and informed that candidates whose OMRs have mismatched will be notified about the new exam date once the investigation is over.

The board said it will make appropriate changes to ensure fairness of the process, such as reprinting OMR documents, reviewing verification and oversight practices, or implementing other assessment safeguards as necessary.

The officials advised the candidates to wait for official notification on the website of the board and on their registered contact details.

The candidates should carry the proof of their application, admit card, travel receipts and any formal letter for future reference. Stay alert for official information from Monitor JKBOPEE and not on rumors on social media.
