JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Analysis: Subject-wise Paper 1, 2 Review and Students Feedback

The JEE Advanced 2026 examination, held on May 17, 2026, the fiercely competitive national-level exam followed its tradition of testing the analytical skills. According to the immediate student reactions after they stepped out after finishing the exam, and the experts' feedback, the overall difficulty level was slightly higher than the previous year, primarily due to the lengthy nature of the mathematics section. The consensus of the students after exiting their exam centres is that Paper 2 of the JEE Advanced exam, conducted by IIT Roorkee, followed its tradition of being more difficult than Paper 1, conducted in the morning shift.

While Paper 1 tested the conceptual depth of the students, Paper 2 reportedly pushed the limits of the time management of the students who appeared for the exam, with lengthy, multi-step numericals.

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Analysis: Subject-Wise Analysis

The subject-wise analysis of the JEE Advanced 2026  Exam Papers 1 and 2 is as follows:-

• Mathematics:- This paper was the most difficult in both papers 1 and 2, as per the students' reactions, as the majority of the questions contained extensive calculations. Questions were heavily drawn from topics like Calculus, Vectors, and 2D geometry. Students also noted that while many questions were solvable, they were mostly time-consuming, making ot difficult it attempt all questions. 
• Chemistry:- This paper ranged from easy to moderate, the chemistry section of the paper was the scoring section for most. Organic Chemistry was a mechanism-heavy field, while inorganic chemistry was mostly based on NCERT trends. Physical Chemistry involved some lengthy calculations in the integer-type sections.
• Physics:- This section ranged from moderate to difficult and tested the core concepts rather than direct formula application. Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, and Electrostatics carried a significant weightage. Paper 2 Physics was reported to be trickier than Paper 1, featuring more multi-concept problems. 

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Analysis: Student Feedback and Marking Scheme

The pattern of the exam was irregular, with a mixture of Single Correct, Multiple Correct, Matrix Match and Integer type questions. Many students felt that the negative marking in multiple correct questions required a very careful approach.  Overall, a score of 40-45% is expected to be competitive for a good rank in the Common Rank List, CRL.
