Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced today May 20 that summer vacations for all state schools will begin early, starting next week. Schools will now be closed from May 25 to June 30. This change moves the start date up from the originally planned June 1. The decision was made immediately following a two-hour meeting between CM Saini, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, and officials, in response to the severe incoming heatwave across Haryana.

New School Timings in Rewari District

In a separate but related announcement, school timings in the Rewari district have been adjusted. Effective May 20, 2026, all government and private schools in Rewari will operate from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon until further notice.

Heatwave Alert and Temperature Details

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange' heatwave alert for the state. Daytime temperatures have soared past 45 degrees Celsius in seven cities, with Faridkot recording a scorching 47.3°C and Rohtak at 46.9°C, according to the meteorological office.

Teacher Mobile Phone Ban and Discipline

The CM also addressed the need for stricter discipline. Teachers are now banned from using mobile phones during school hours. CM Saini explained that using mobile phones during classes distracts students and should be stopped.

To promote social responsibility and respect for labor, Haryana schools will introduce “shramdaan” (voluntary community work) into the curriculum. This initiative will involve gardening, and environmental conservation, incorporating them into students' daily routines.
