DU Student Safety: DUSU Submits Memorandum To Delhi CM Over Hostels, PGs And Women’s Security
The ABVP-led DUSU has submitted a memorandum to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, seeking more hostels, regular safety audits of PGs and stronger security measures for women students.

The ABVP-led Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) has submitted a memorandum to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, raising concerns over student accommodation and safety in and around Delhi University campuses. The delegation sought the construction of more hostels across DU colleges to address the shortage of affordable student accommodation.
The memorandum was submitted on Tuesday by a DUSU delegation that included President Yash Dabas, Secretary Riya Chhawri, Joint Secretary Lakshya Raj Singh and ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma.
DUSU Demands Mandatory Safety Audits Of PGs
A key demand is the introduction of regular and mandatory safety audits for paying guest (PG) accommodations, hostels and other buildings located in areas with a high concentration of students.
The students have called for these checks to ensure compliance with structural and fire-safety standards. The demand comes amid renewed scrutiny of student accommodation in Delhi following the September 6 Satya Niketan building collapse, in which at least seven people were killed.
The Delhi government has already constituted a high-powered committee to examine student accommodation and recommend measures to improve safety and regulate PG facilities.

The DUSU memorandum also seeks stronger safety arrangements for women students. The demands include better lighting at identified dark spots, functional and properly maintained Pink Booths and regular police patrolling in and around university areas.
DUSU President Yash Dabas had earlier identified safety audits of PGs and hostels, new girls' hostels and student helplines as key priorities after his election.
Compensation Sought For Satya Niketan Victims
The delegation also sought appropriate compensation for families affected by the Satya Niketan incident. The issue of student accommodation and safety has received increased attention following the collapse, particularly among students living in private PGs and other rented accommodations.
The DUSU's latest memorandum therefore combines demands related to DU hostel expansion, PG safety audits, women's security and assistance for families affected by the Satya Niketan incident.
