16 Crore IDs Issued in Past Two Years: Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced a milestone achievement for the digital educational revolution. According to the official X post, the Ministry has declared that the APAAR initiative has achieved over 16 crore registrations within the past two years. 

The post reads, “The APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry), India's "One Nation-One Student ID" initiative under the Ministry of Education, has scaled from zero to 16.08 crore IDs in two years, making it one of the world's largest student digital identity Programmes.” the post adds, "APAAR provides students with a trusted, lifelong academic record"

What is APAAR ID?

The APAAR initiative is aligned with NEP 2020, which aims to provide every student a secure, portable and lifelong academic identity, enabling seamless integration of academic records, improved student mobility and efficient, transparent governance. 

How to create APAAR ID in DigiLocker?

To create an APAAR ID, students can use the DigiLocker app and/or website. They will need to follow the mentioned steps to create an online education repository which will have a lifetime validity: 

1. Visit the official DigiLocker Website or download the app. 
2. Sign up using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
3. Go to the "Search Documents" section and look for "Academic Bank of Credits". 
4. Select "APAAR/ABC ID Card" 
5. Enter your academic details to generate it. 
6. The 12-digit APAAR/ABC ID card will be generated.
7. Save it to your Issued Documents section as a PDF.
