Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three day visit to Seychelles from June 27 to June 29, 2026. This is his first visit to the island country in 11 years. The main purpose of this visit was to attend Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Chief Guest of Honour. 

PM Modi wants to strengthen marine security and trading ties with the island nation with the help of this visit. 

During his visit, on Sunday, Seychelles honored the Prime Minister with a ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ honor for his contributions towards sustainable development and environmental welfare.

Seychelles President Patrick Herminie awarded Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ honor, which is the highest honor provided to international designation guests.

The First Lady, Veronique Herminie said that the visit by India’s PM is a warm gesture showing the good ties between India and Seychelles, she said:

“This is sending the right message to the world and to the people of Seychelles that there is a lot of respect, friendship and unity that India and Seychelles enjoy."

PM Modi was given this honor for his efforts towards addressing climate change issues, creating initiatives with other countries to combat environmental threats and challenges. 

What Did PM Modi Say About the Honour?

PM Modi graciously accepted the honour and said, "I humbly accept this title with honor and dedicate it to all other countries that are struggling against the challenges of climate change and that consider the protection of the environment their responsibility toward future generations. I extend my gratitude to the people and government of Seychelles, as well as to President Herminie, for bestowing upon me the title ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon.

This is an urgent challenge that we need to overcome together. The sun, in its way, stands ready to do whatever is necessary to make the world greener and more sustainable.

This is reflected in our various domestic policies, with the motto of the LiFe Mission (a vision for a sustainable future) and global efforts such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and others." 

He is set to attend the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour on 29th June, 2026 where he will be addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles along with interacting with the general public.
