New Financial Changes From July 1

Every year, certain changes by the government of India are implemented which can impact your finances and businesses. That is why you need to be aware of these new rules and keep the deadlines in mind which will be taking effect from July 2026.

There are three things that need your attention from July 1, 2026 and each of these can affect your money in one way or the other.

One deadline you need to be aware of is for your taxes, one change will be making your passport copies more expensive and the last change offers a small relief to Aadhar card holders. Here is everything you need to know about the major changes that take effect from July 1, 2026.

ITR Deadline for Financial Year 2025-26

The deadline for the majority of taxpayers for the Financial Year 2025-26 is 31st July. This deadline is for salaried individuals and people with simple income. There are currently no extensions for the same so it is important that you file your returns on time.

Similarly small business owners and professionals who file ITR-3 and ITR-4 will get an extra time and the deadline for them to submit their returns is August 31, 2026.

Missing these deadlines can be costly as people with income of ₹5,00,000 miss deadlines then they have to pay a penalty of ₹5,000 similarly people below this salary need to pay a fees of ₹1,000.

However, if you still miss to file your returns then all is not lost as you can file a belated return until 31 December, 2026 along with the late applicable fee.

Increase in Passport Fee

One of the important changes that will take effect from July 2026 is an increase in the passport fees.

The Ministry of External Affairs in a notification has mentioned that the revised fees for a 36-page fresh passport or reissue of a passport will be ₹2,500 which earlier was ₹1500.

Similarly the fees for 60 page fresh or reissue of a passport will now cost ₹3,500 which earlier was ₹2000.

Under the Tatkaal Scheme a fresh or reissue of a passport will now cost ₹5000 while a 60 page one will cost ₹6000.

According to reports this price hike comes after almost 14 years and it is mainly due to operational costs, better security features and other enhanced services.

New Aadhar Card Changes

Unlike the passport fees hike, the Aadhar card update brings some good news for people. UIDAI has now waived off the ₹75 fees that was earlier charged to update the email address. However, one needs to be aware that this fee is waived off if you update your email through Aadhar mobile app. Visiting an Aadhar center for any changes will attract charges. This fee is waived off for a limited time period which is until 31 December 2026.
