The Kharg Island is known as the ‘Orphan of the Pearl’. The nickname was given by famous Iranian writer Jalal Al-e-Ahmad in 1960. He coined this name because the island sits in solitary isolation, deep in the persian gulf and separated from the mainland like a pearl that had lost its Oyster.  

Jalal Al-e-Ahmad appreciated its natural and historical beauty that was being overlooked and abandoned to the cold industrial machinery of the international oil trade.
