The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has officially released the Round 1 opening and closing ranks for B.Tech admissions 2026 on June 13. Candidates can now check the branch-wise JEE Main cutoff ranks for National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy), one of the most competitive NITs in the country.

The Round 1 cutoff provides helpful insight into the admission competition under both the Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) quotas. This competition is defined by the JEE Main opening rank, which is the highest rank that got the very first seat in a branch, and the closing rank, which is the lowest rank that secured the last seat before admissions closed. For many branches, the cutoff gap between the two quotas remains higher, whereas highly preferred branches such as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) witness high competition across both categories.

NIT Trichy Round 1 Cutoff 2026: Home State Quota (Open Category)

Under the HS-OPEN quota, Architecture saw the highest ranks 198-444, and CSE remained highly competitive at 1034-3812 in Round 1. Other top branches like ECE, EEE, and Mechanical close between 5055-12311.

Home State vs Other State Cutoff Analysis

The Other State quota at NIT Trichy is generally more competitive than the Home State quota because candidates from all over India compete for a limited number of seats. Historical JoSAA trends show that OS cutoffs for top branches close at much lower JEE Main ranks than HS cutoffs. For instance, CSE under the OS quota has closed near the top 1,500 ranks, whereas the HS quota covers a much wider range of ranks.

Key Takeaways for Students from Round 1

The Round 1 data highlights two main points for NIT Trichy aspirants:

1. Home State quota provides a clear advantage: Candidates from Tamil Nadu have access to branches like Mechanical or Civil Engineering with much higher closing ranks compared to other state candidates.

2. CSE remains extremely competitive: Admission to Computer Science requires a top JEE Main rank, whether belonging to Home State or Other State quota. Seats get filled quickly with only the highest ranks getting a seat.
