Securing admission to a Master of Technology (M.Tech) program at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has traditionally been conducted based on strong performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). However, for the academic year 2026-27, aspirants should know that there are several IITs which offer admission to their M.Tech program without the GATE scores. Several IITs offer alternative admission routes for candidates with exceptional academic records or relevant professional experience. For example, IIT Madras offers admission to its M.Tech Program based on an exceptional CGPA in the B.Tech program.

Under some specific categories, such as high-CGPA direct admission for internal students and sponsored seats for working professionals, eligible applicants can pursue an M.Tech degree without appearing for the GATE exam.

Which IITs Offer Admission Without GATE?

While GATE remains the primary gateway for seeking admission to M.Tech programs offered by the Indian Institutes of Technology, there are several IITs which offer other options to seek admission to the M.Tech programs offered by them without valid GATE scores. These choices are typically classified into specific categories, such as high-CGPA direct admissions for IIT graduates, sponsored seats for working professionals, part-time programs, or institute staff quotas.

However, the availability of these pathways varies by campus and department, with each IIT establishing its own eligibility criteria, selection process, and seat intake criteria. Given below is the list of IITs which offer admission to their M.Tech program without GATE scores:-
