Tamil Nadu Schools to Reopen from June 1 with New Curriculum Books for Classes 1–3
Tamil Nadu schools will officially reopen for the 2026-27 academic year from June 1. Education Minister Rajmohan announced that students in Classes 1-3 will receive nine new textbooks, which are designed for modern, interactive learning.
Tamil Nadu School Education Department is ready to welcome students back for the new academic session starting June 1, 2026. A major highlight this year is the introduction of a fresh curriculum for the foundational years. Students in Classes 1, 2, and 3 will be the first to use nine newly designed textbooks that focus on activity-based learning and personality development.
To ensure the new syllabus is taught effectively, the government has organised a specialised training program for the primary teachers from June 1 to June 3. While higher classes, 4 to 12, will begin their regular schedule on June 1, students in Classes 1 to 3 are expected to start their full classroom sessions on June 4, following the completion of the teacher’s orientation.

Education Minister Rajmohan confirmed that the state has prioritised student comfort and safety. Ahead of the reopening, school heads have been instructed to clear campuses, check water facilities, and ensure that smartboards and digital tablets are completely functional.
Printing of the new books is nearly complete, and distribution to various districts is already underway to ensure every child receives their materials on the first day. This update is part of the state’s effort to move away from the traditional repetitive learning and provide a more engaging, safe, and modern educational experience for young leaders.
