CBSE: As the new academic session for Classes 9 commences from April 1, 2026. Temporary Solution: Schools Rely on Draft Syllabi and Resources
In the absence of official textbooks, many schools are opting to begin teaching using the draft syllabus shared earlier by NCERT. Teachers are also supplumenting lesions with reference materials and previous editions of textbooks to ensure continuity in learning. However, educators note that these temporary arrangements may not fully match the structure and intent of the revised curriculum.
The new syllabus is designed to promote competency-based learning, critical thinking, and a more holistic understanding of subjects. It also incorporates Indian Knowledge systems and aims to reduce content load while enhancing conceptual clarity. Despite these improvements, the lack of ready-to-use textbooks has created uncertainty among both teachers and students.
School authorities have expressed concerns over maintaining uniformity in teaching and assessment. Parents, too, are seeking clarity on when the new books will be made available. The delay comes as part of the phased implementation of reforms under the NEP 2020, which has already seen updated materials introduced in lower classes.
