CBSE reported 20 answer sheet mix-ups due to scanning errors in its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Of 98 lakh scripts, 68,000 required rescanning, and 13,000 were evaluated manually due to poor clarity. IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur experts are refining the system to ensure transparency. Additionally, scanned scripts and mark sheets will now be accessible via DigiLocker. COEMPT secured the OSM contract by underbidding TCS with a rate of ₹24.75 per booklet.

The board has acknowledged around 20 cases of answer sheet mix-ups caused by scanning errors during the rollout of its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Around 13,000 answer scripts were checked by hand. The mix-up was noticed by students when they got their scanned answer scripts. They saw that the book they got did not belong to them.

In some cases there was a mistake in scanning. There are 20 such cases. Students told us about it after they saw their answer sheets, " sources said. The CBSE board exam answer sheets will be available in DigiLocker along with mark sheets from this year. Technology helps us be more transparent, " they said.

The board said that 98 lakh answer scripts were scanned and uploaded to the OSM portal. Out of these around 68,000 had quality issues during scanning. Were rescanned. Even after rescanning over 13,000 copies still did not look clear. The board said that experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur are checking the system and making it better. They are looking at the code and the system to make it work smoothly. The goal is to make it seamless and glitch-free.

The officials said that OSM is good because it makes evaluation fair and transparent. "Whenever you do something there are problems, " they said. The report also states that COEMPT and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were shortlisted for the round of bidding. COEMPT was chosen because it quoted around Rs 24.75 per answer booklet, which was lower than TCSs quote of around Rs 65.
