Nalanda University was founded in 427 CE (5th century) by the Gupta Emperor Kumaragupta I, son of ChandraGupta II, who was a powerful ruler of the Gupta Dynasty, and ruled during the 5th century, from around 415 to 455 CE. He is also widely known as the Shakraditya.

This university has served for a long time over 800 years, before its destruction in the 12th century.

According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the Nalanda University was established during the Gupta Ruler, Kumargupta I, who played a major role in the foundation of Nalanda University.

Over time, later rulers, such as Harshavardhana and the Pala kings, who had supported the expansion and development of the Nalanda University.

Importance of Nalanda University

Naklanda University was not just a place of education, but it was a global centre of knowledge and culture.

Thousands of students, not only Indian, but also across many Asian countries, came here to get a deep and cultural knowledge under the highly qualified teachers.

This university has been highly structured from ancient times, and to get admission to the Nalada University, it is not so easy.

Decline of Nalanda University

Despite its greatness, Nalanda University declined in the 12th century CE. It was destroyed during invasions, which led to the loss of its valuable libraries and infrastructure. However, it still stands today as a symbol of India’s rich educational heritage.
