The brand was founded by a Japanese engineer known as Soichiro Honda. He was born on 17 November 1906. During his childhood as well he was very fond of machines and engines. His love took him to become a mechanic at just the age of 15 and later on he opened an auto repair shop. 

In the year 1945, Soichiro sold his earlier business to Toyota Motor Corporation. Later in the years he founded Honda Technical Research Institute, which became Honda Motor Company in 1948. 

In the starting, the company started making small bike engines and in the following years became one of the biggest motorcycle and car makers in the world.

In 1949, Takeo Fujisawa joined hands with Soichiro. He helped in the finances of the company while Soichiro worked on engineering and product design. 

The company grew rapidly and by 1959 it became one of the leaders in the motorcycle industry. The company started making cars in 1963.

While these two men were the backbone of the company, Soichiro and Fujisawa retired together in October 1973 after they worked for 25 years. As of today the company is a publicly listed company which means that its shares are bought and sold in the stock markets.
