What Is the New Non-GMO Popcorn Maize Seed?

The new seed is a non-GMO high-expansion popcorn maize hybrid seed. It is especially developed for growing high maize that can be used to make popcorn fro earring in snacks.

It will be launched by VP C. P. Radhakrishnan, and it is India’s first non-GMO high-expansion popcorn maize hybrid seed.

It has three important features; these are:

What Is Popcorn Maize?

Popcorn maize is a special type of maize whose kernels can pop when they are heated. A popcorn kernel contains a small amount of moisture inside a hard outer covering. When the kernel is heated, the water inside turns into steam, and while pressure builds inside the kernel, eventually the outer covering breaks open.

The inside then turns into the familiar soft and fluffy popcorn.

This is why not every type of maize can make good popcorn. Popcorn maize has special characteristics that allow it to pop properly.

GMO stand for Genetically Modified Organism, which means a GMO crop is produced by changing its genetic material using genetic engineering.
